Woke up around 0530hrs and prepared for the day which would be like a rest day for us, with all the activity we had done the previous days. We had a walk around San Roque, visiting the church there then buying bread to eat for breakfast.

At 0700hrs we went to the market or what they call Mercado and bought some fish and squid, going back to the house to cook and by 1000hrs ate what we cooked. Then we started to have a videoke competition between us guys versus the girls, which we could not win. By 1330hrs we ate lunch of fried lechon with atchara plus the fish and then just laze around, this is where I watched a tagalog movie marathon for the first time.

Went to the beach at around 1730hrs to try to get a sunset shot but when we arrived the clouds was blocking the sun so no sunset shot and even tried to get a night time shot but no good also, maybe next time, retreated to our beds at around 2200hrs, to rest for the lazy day.

We ate lunch again at a relatives carinderia, then headed back to San Roque by 1330hrs, where we headed back again to the market to buy some spotted rice to take back home and bought some ice cream.

By dinner time, we were treated to a best tasting tinola I ever had, with a freshly killed chicken, which reminded me of the pinikpikan in the highlands of Benguet, which I miss. Then watched another Filipino movie marathon while drinking red wine till 2230hrs in which we went to sleep.

Woke up around 0600hrs, which we prepared for the day, arriving at Catarman by 0730hrs and watched the Plastikaton Race, which was organized by the Regional Director of Fisheries of Northern Samar. Here is where I saw recycled soda plastic bottles being used to make into boats, even their life vests are made of used plastic bottles.

After the race, we headed to the Municipality of Lavezares
to attend another fiesta. Arriving at Lavezares, we were greeted again with the lechon being prepared all around the place. Our lunch was Sinigang na Pusit, Sweet & Sour Fish and Kalabao Steak, with Piñato for dessert. I thought we were done with lunch but transferring to another house we were served again lunch of fried kalabaw ribs, shanghi lumpia and for dessert, is a white jello with mango. We were so full that we did not try to eat dinner upon arriving at San Roque. Upon arriving home, we fixed our thing and packed our bags for our trip back to Manila the next day.

With our time of departure at 1150hrs, we prepared our things and then fixed all the pasalubong we would be carrying and said our goodbyes to our host for our whole stay in Samar, and we headed for the airport in Catarman. By 1030hrs, we checked in our bags at the airport and waited at the lounge for our flight. With the plane arriving, we were told that we could board the plane, which we did and arriving in Manila at around 1400hrs

Visiting Northern Samar was a thrill with all the places we have been, and would like to go back again and visit the Island of Capul, which we did not have a chance to visit. We had a wonderful stay in Samar, learning even a couple of word in the local dialect, and right now, I am missing this great place.

That’s why I was naimus ak san kabaysay san Northern Samar

Special thanks to:
The Acibar Family, for letting us accompany them on this trip.
To Tita Lydia, for letting us stay in their house and letting us taste here Lydia’s Lechon Manok, which tasted like ham till the bones.
To the Family of JunJun and Nancy with their kids MarMar, and Krizza, for letting us stay and mess up their whole house
And to their relatives, who showed us the wonderful island of Biri and for making us enjoy our stay in Samar

Thanks to all of you guys, till our next trip back to your place…
HAPPY TRAILS!!!
