Roundtrip to Manila
(A pain from Behind)
ITLog No.8
1-3 July 2011

Arriving the night before from Bangkok, we were again a trip that would take us/me on a trip from Manila to Baguio, Down to Pangasinan, back to Baguio, then to Manila. I was asked by my father to accompany him to Pangasinan to look at the house there and to check some papers. Leaving Manila by Victory bus at 1000hrs we headed for Baguio City (they say the summer capital of the Philippines), arriving in Baguio with a downpour and since there was no taxi around the bus terminal, we decided to just walk going to SM Mall. There we bought some dinner and bread to take home, with the long cue at the taxi stand it took us almost an hour waiting for a cab and it was almost dark when we reached home. We ate dinner and then I prepared for our trip to Pangasinan the next day.

Waking up early on a Saturday, me and my dad took the taxi and headed for the old victory bus station where we took the ordinary bus headed for Dagupan City in Pangasinan. Passing by the towns of Agoo, San Fabian, Mangaldan then reaching Dagupan at around 1000hrs where we transferred to another bus headed for Alaminos. Arriving at Lingayen by around 1100hrs we ate at a restaurant near the Lingayen Church then took the tricycle headed for my father’s hometown, which is Estanza.

After cleaning up the place and filling the water tank half full, I then headed for the rice paddies to take some photos of a friend planting rice, when he decided that we should head out to the fishpond and look for the caretaker there so as that we could go back home early. Washing up my muddy feet, we headed at passing the old house where we stayed before then to the paddies and the fishponds. It was a long time ago that I went to visit the fishpond so I forgot the way, so we ask around and was pointed to where we should head, passing streams and more fishponds we arrived at the place we were told but was not there, they told us that he was at the other side of the river playing Tong-its and that one of the guys there said that he would accompany us. Using his rowboat (with out the rigging in the side), we boarded his boat but was scared that we would over-turn and I was carrying my camera, the guy said not to worry because the boat was wide and the river was not too deep. “Not too Deep”, this as a river channel where the water goes out to sea and the water was less than an inch below the edge of the boat, plus our friend was always moving and moving about, here is here I was swearing a lot.

Reaching the other side of the river (the guy said “see”), we were taken to a place where mang ading was and waited for him to finish his game while we re-freshen our thirst with some cola. This we learned that we were already in the town of Magsaysay near Labrador, and we walked almost all the way. Heading back to Estanza, it started to drizzle and arriving at the house I rested a bit then took a bath. Dinner was early in the evening, we ate small daing, which looked like tuyo and ginisang ampalaya, I was able to eat some green mangoes coming from the tree in the backyard. Sleeping early but it was so hot that I could not sleep, and by around 2300hrs it started to rain hard and this time the air was so cold that I had to wear my jacket.

Waking up around 0500hrs, and eating breakfast of bread and eggs, then took a bath and prepared for our trip back to Baguio. Fixing up the things in the house and closing all the windows and boarding up and locking the doors. We headed out with my father to the tricycle station and went to hear mass at Lingayen Church. After mass we then took a mini bus headed for Dagupan, and at the Victory terminal took the bus headed for Baguio.

The trip back to Baguio was so hot and the bus was getting crowed because the next day was a school day and all the students goes back up to Baguio. Arriving at Baguio around 1100hrs, we took a cab going home where we were greeted by my mother and carol and ate a healthy lunch. After resting a bit, we headed for the bus station and took the earliest bus going down to Manila, and by 1300hrs was on board the bus headed for Manila. It was raining most of the trip and was so tired that I was asleep most of the trip. Arriving in manila around 1900hrs and was glad that our trip was done because I was already feeling the pain from sitting down on all the trips that we made.

Now I realize that, if you really love to travel, you have to pay the price of sitting for hours on your behind.

Till the next trip and hopefully would not be a pain in the a__…

HAPPY TRAILS!!!
